
Gary Ingram
Tennis Director
With 33 years of professional coaching experience, Gary has an outstanding tennis background as a player, a coach and teacher. He has an exceptional ability to work effectively with a wide range of skill levels. He has been a USPTR certified member for more than 20 years and is also a USPTA Elite Professional and a TPA member.
Gary has coached in Toronto, England, Hilton Head, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. He was a former Head Professional and Sports Science Coordinator at the world-famous Van der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, SC. There he trained, travelled with, and developed many highly-ranked ITF juniors and ATP/WTA touring pros. Before moving back to Canada, he was the Director of Tennis at Harmony on the Lakes in Holly Springs, GA where he oversaw all tennis activities for an 8-court, 900-home facility. Previously he was at Universal Tennis Academy in Marietta, GA where he created a tennis-specific fitness program for the high-performance academy and personally trained many highly-ranked juniors and touring pros. Gary also has extensive experience overseeing Junior programs at the beginner and recreational level (Rosedale Tennis Club and The Donalda Club) as well as being a Tennis Director at Rosedale Tennis Club, Harmony on the Lakes, and Clevelands House Resort.
Recently the past 5 winters he has been at The Badminton and Racquet Club in Toronto as the Head Platform Tennis Professional where he coordinates all house leagues and instructs all levels of private lessons and clinics. In 2023, Gary along with his partner Alex Bruce reached the semis of the Platform Mixed Nationals losing to the eventual champions.
Gary is passionate about the sport of tennis. His unique combination of expertise in coaching, fitness training and sport psychology can give you the help and edge you need for your game. He is a graduate of Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. in Psychology. He maintains his coaching education by regularly attending conferences and seminars with top professionals in the USPTR, USPTA and TPA. He is currently finishing his first book on the mental aspects of tennis.
Gary competed in France, the United States, England and Canada on professional satellite circuits and money tournaments from 1988-1993 and then turned to coaching. In addition, he finished 12th Nationally playing in the Men’s Over 45’s Singles in 2014.
He is exceptional at creating an environment of fun and learning in a club setting. He looks forward to returning to Cottingham Tennis Club for his 10th year as Tennis Director and working with you on the court.
